Beauty is only skin deep

beauty

I'm a huge believer in the saying, beauty is only skin deep. If you are an ugly person on the inside, no amount of makeup or surgery will change that. However, what you have to remember is, it's your skin that tells everyone what is happening on the inside.

It was about a year ago I looked at myself in the mirror one morning and thought, 'Wow...what have I been doing to myself?' my skin was telling me all sorts of things, from the lack of sleep I'd had, to the fact I hadn't been eating right and having far too many glasses of wine at the weekends. That had to stop... My skin had been through enough over the years. There was a change in lifestyle,I also started to really look into what I was putting on my skin.

I'd got a number of overnight creams but always thought myself still 'too young' to use them, I also never really liked the idea of putting thick cream over my temperamental wannabe teenage skin. I would get the wrong sort for my skin and it would make me break out terribly so I deemed all overnight creams wrong for me. It wasn't until this Christmas I was lucky enough to get the Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair

Now this serum really has worked! I usually have trouble sleeping, but this little magic bottle makes it look like I've had a good 8 hours shut eye!
When I put it on of an evening I can literally hear my skin drink it up and it doesn't break me out! I could carry on singing this product's praises but I highly recommend you to try it yourself if you have had a similar problem as me. I'm just happy to have found a night cream (or serum) that works for me at last!

Whilst on the topic of skin I thought I'd share with you what I am using on my skin at the moment...

I've never been one to buy into products as soon as they land in the stores, I'm a little cheeky and sit back for a little while and wait for others to try it out first and see if they reckon it's worth it. Once I find a product that works for me, I will stick with it till the death.

I totally destroyed my skin when I was younger constantly changing what I used on it. There was also a stage I grew so annoyed with it I went out of my way to choose products that looked the most harsh deep cleansing scrubs and would abuse my poor skin until it was raw. Of course, with using such harsh products on a daily basis, and not once in a while, my skin became so flat and grey/dry looking, all it's natural oils had been ripped out of it and I had no healthy glow.

It's hard to remember a little oil is what your skin needs after all, just like the frosting on a cake, you need enough of it to make it totally yummy, but too much of it isn't good, neither is none at all!

I haven't been the luckiest with my skin, I am well into my 20s and still suffer with adolescent acne prone skin. Yes I'll admit it gets me down and I have become a bit of a skin spotter (I guess that's like a train spotter, but without the Mac and notebook) However, recently, touch wood, its slowly, slowly starting to clear up. The only thing I could put this down to is my change in lifestyle and total overhaul of products I use.

Mornings:

This foaming gel is the first thing to hit my face in the mornings. It's gentle, meaning it won't break any blemishes and spread the germs around your face. However, the La Roche-Posay Effaclar range is blemish fighting so will clear away any troublesome visitors you may have!

On days my skin does not have any active, angry spots I'll use this Olay Regenerist cream wash, the fact this wash is a little like a scrub washes away all the dead skin cells and leaves your skin so smooth and fresh feeling. I have to admit, I get a lot of comments of my 'glowing face' the days I use this.

Once I'm all washed I cleanse my face using Clinique 'Take The Day Off' This product is like hard serum that melts with the heat of your fingers as you work it into your skin. Now this cleanser can get rid of anything! I once spent the pervious evening doing a very rushed home tanning session and this cleanser washed the colour totally off. Thank goodness as the tan was a shambles!

Once cleansed I'll use the Clinique anti-blemish solutions, clarifying lotion as a toner. This leaves my skin so fresh and clean feeling I sometimes don't want to put my make-up on!

I then use La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo as a moisturiser for when my skin is playing up. I've noticed a few bloggers and MUAs mention this product before. They all seem to say the same thing, this product is incredible.

Evenings:

Once I have taken off my makeup with the cleanser and toner I use in the mornings I then move on to Origins Spot Remover pads. Just one pad can be used for the entire face and neck. These pads are lovely and I actually really like the smell. So organic compared to other very chemical smelling blemish treatments I've used in the past.

After I use Origins Super Spot Remover on pesky, angry spots. Overnight they shrink down and are so easy to cover the next morning with concealer.

The final product I put on before bed is the Estee Lauder I have previously mentioned in this blog.

And there you have it, I'm not saying this routine will work for everyone, but it works for me. Of course I believe that it's not only my skin routine that has helped me with my blemishes, but exercising more, drinking a lot more water, eating well and cutting out alcohol has all added up together to give me the skin I have been longing for.

All about the brows

Don't let anyone with bad eyebrows tell you sh*t about life

For me, brows have not always been that important to me. There was a time in my life I just ignored my brows, I'd look back at pictures from nights out and family dos and my eyes were always drawn to my washed out, patchy eyebrows. This was before my makeup addiction, so I never really thought of the idea of filling them in.

I started filling my brows using pencils. I used Rimmel, the brown was the right colour for me and the handy little brush at the end was always helpful to smooth down my brows. It was after I while I felt as though I needed a change. My brows are full, but very patchy with one having a scar in it that can be so tricky to cover properly. I wanted to try out powder as it would give me a softer finish without me looking so angry all the time.

It was then I started using Benefits Brow Zing. The powder gave me a much more natural and soft look, I decided to marry the pencil and powder together and lined the bottom part of my brow with the pencil to give them a better shape. I do love a strong brow after all! With the two products working together I was finally happy with my eyebrows!

It was a while into my makeup addiction I noticed a few ladies from over the pond keep mentioning Anastasia Beverly Hills. I needed to find out what all this was about, after all, their eyebrows were amazing and looked so natural.

In the end, after my little brow shopping spree, I ended up with a Brow Wiz and palette that had stencils, wax and powders for the brows and highlight for under the brows.

The Brow Wiz has a lovely texture and is so precise, you could draw on each individual hair if you wanted to.
With the palette, everything in it is quite useful, I've used the stencils on a couple clients and friends and they loved the shape! I have used all the other products on my own brows and really liked the results. The powder is a great pigment and gives you the chose to build it up to as dark as you want. I used all the products and was left very happy with my gorgeous brows!

Jungle Drums....

I must be honest with you all, today has been feeling very flat, and it is not even lunch time! However, as I absentmindedly procrastinated on twitter, I kept hearing the faint sounds of jungle drums...

Illamasqua, Sale, Illamasqua, Sale, Illamasqua, Sale

This can't be true, this has to be some sort of sick joke. It's as though Alex Box knew this would brighten my day! Brighten it as much as their beautiful, pigmented shadows!

I dashed to my pc, I had to see this for my own eyes. There it was, clear as day.... Fighting the need to fall to my knees in a very Wayne's World-esque 'WE'RE NOT WORTHY, WE'RE NOT WORTHY' fit, I pulled myself together and started shopping!

With a collection of cream foundations I nabbed for my ever growing fledgling kit, I also spied a yummy looking white liquid liner. Now I'll admit, white liner has never been something I have considered, especially on myself. I can see how it would look breath taking on dark skin but something was telling me to give it a go. Just as Illamasqua says, make-up for your alter ego. I'm sure my alter ego wears white liner!

I clicked the check out button and right now my Illamasqua goods are on their way!
Please be quick my beauties!

It was after I cooled down after my make-up shopping hype I got researching what looks I could do with my new goody!

Who else has tried white liner?! Let me know your thoughts!

Two-Four working days can not come quick enough! I can't wait to have some play time with this product! I will keep you all posted on how I get on with it. Now I'm off to peer out my window for the postman.

Beauty Crush: Mrs Carter

'Underneath the pretty face is something complicated..'

It was one early morning I was scrolling through Instagram with a sleepy head and one eye open when I stumbled upon Beyoncé announcing the release of her surprise visual album.

The flashing lights, colours and general amazing Beyonceness took my breath away... the makeup was unreal, and that was just from a super quick glimpse.

I tried to play it cool at first, just like how you never want to be the one to text that date back first... Don't want to look too needy...
I lasted about 5 minutes before I caved and waited anxiously for the album to download. The rest of my day consisted of me listening and watching to this mouth watering music.

THE MAKE-UP
THE OUTFITS
THE LYRICS
THE LOCATIONS
FEATURING ARTISTS
MR AND MRS CARTER
not forgetting BABY CARTER

The entire album is a treat for all the senses!

Mine ft. Drake

BHCosmetics have an incredible palette they call 120 colour palette and has up to about 5 editions to it. The 3rd edition has all the colours you need to complete this look. Remember to keep the waterline light. Rimmel have a lovely pinky cream kohl pencil. If you fancy giving this look even more punch, line your waterline with a darker colour. Expect a lot of comments on this look! It certainly isn't for the faint hearted!

Get your palette from the link below: The shadows are insane, amazing pigments!

   Lipstick
MAC's Lipstick in Hang Up

By looking at the images, the lipstick looks very put together, but has a vampy, slight bitten appearance to it and strong collection of the colour in the centre of the lips. I would apply the lipstick straight to the lip the blot it out towards the edges and keep applying until the strong colour is perfect in the middle. To keep it neat, line the lip first with a pencil of a similar colour, Topshop have a lovely one I use myself.

No Angel

The lips Queen Bey wears in this video is the sort of thing that girls will sigh like a teenager in love over, where as men just won't understand just how wonderful it is.

To get this look I went a little more high end. I felt as though this lippie needed that little extra, special treatment.
I looked into the scrumptious, creamy lipsticks available at Tom Ford

The Tom Ford lipstick doesn't really have the same purple undertone found in Beyoncé's, but I wasn't going to let that stop me! Instead I got MAC's Magenta lip liner and lined the entire lip and then applied Tom Ford's Indian Rose. The colour has a head nod of inspiration towards the lipstick in the video, but with an original twist to make it more your own. I personally love mixing lipsticks and liners together to get something truly original.

The entire album has so many gorgeous looks, Beyoncé has really spoilt us! I know I will be giving a number of these looks a go and of course have the album on repeat until I drive my neighbours insane!

One last thing to say is a huge well done and thumbs up to everyone involved in putting this album together! Great way of finishing off 2013!

Have a little listen and see what you think everyone
